    Hi everyone,

I can’t remember who created the site above (national5computing.co.uk/sql). I use it every year with my classes and think it’s a fantastic resource for practicing queries. This year when I try to access the website it hangs and I get a server unresponsive message. Is there anyone I can contact to inform to get the website back up and running?

    Thanks,
    Emma

    Hi Emma,

it’s back up again. If anyone knows who wrote this, can you let me know. It’s a lovely interface and I’d like to add some Higher and Advanced Higher tables and queries.

    Hello,

Was me! Just saw your email, Paul. Had to dust down my compednet and remember how to get on the forum bit!

I am happy to try and extend once I remember how I actually wrote it. The server is playing up a bit due to another site being hosted on it that I’m trying to get off it, so let me know if it stops working.

Anyone who has exercises they would wish to make into tasks, get in touch.

Incidentally when I checked, it’s now had more than 500,000 queries run through it of which about 1/3 are correct :).

Thanks Peter. I’m planning ahead and was looking to see where I could put some Higher/Advanced Higher sample database query exercises with feedback and your site looks great. I’ll send you some examples in the next couple of weeks. Thank you.

Used this resource for the 18/19 academic year and was excellent – the kids really engaged with it!

The hashing of the answers in js file is great as there are many pupils who spend more time trying to cheat than to actually try!

    Thanks for the resource.

    Hi @pliddle34,

Thank you very much! I agree it’s a great resource, especially for pupils practicing their SQL at home if they don’t have Access. Would love a Higher version of it too – happy to help contribute if needed.

I use a set of YouTube videos from @computingsciencescotland2909 on an account called Computing Science Scotland. They are very clear and concise. I would like to get in touch with the chap who made them. Can you let me know if you can help out with this please?

    Thanks in advance

Hi David, that’s me who makes those videos. You can probably tell I started with the best of intentions and kinda forgot all about it after a while haha. Thanks for the kind words about the videos, though I do think there are better ones out there, for example Mr Neil’s (https://www.mrneil.website/).

I use your videos SO much with my pupils, so thank you!

I’ve been meaning to ask who made them for a long time 🙂

That’s great to hear! I might have to finish the rest of the videos I had intended to make ha ha. Now that I know some people get some use out of them, I have a bit of motivation 🙂

You have such a lovely manner when explaining concepts, the kids love them. So, thank you!
