Access Database

Does anyone have or know of a good tutorial (paper or video) on how to insert images into an access database? Having issues doing it and can’t decide if it is me or the program.

Robert what version of Access are you using?

SQA have confirmed that we can use the attachment field in Access 2010 which works perfectly for images. I’ve always had problems with OLE server.

School is on 2010 so I’ll try the attachment field there. At home I’m on 2013 and nothing seems to be working.

Andy, thanks for the advice. Attachments worked in school and at home so no idea what was going wrong with it yesterday.

    Happy to help,

If you send me your e-mail address I’ll forward on the response from the SQA to say that this is acceptable.

    Andy.

Robert we had that problem as well – and for some reports the image was merely appearing as its file name. We have decided to allow this as a pass. Howerver we have also had problems with the switchboard – for some pupils although they can acsess the switchboard manager the switchboard simply does not appear.
    Thanks

I find that if you put the image into paint then select and copy it allows it to go in as a picture. Or if you save the image in paint then insert object it will appear as bitmap image.

Another way is to simply copy and paste images from internet! works ok!

We’re using Access 2013 and QR codes seem to only be able to be inserted with the filed set up with the data type OLE Object and the QR codes inserted using the package function.

When I want pupils to isnsert images into a database, I usually provide them with a folder of bitmaps, which then clearlya re display as the actual image when a report is created.

Might have been ehlpful if the SQA had thought about software difficulties (including the fact that most schools don’t just allow teachers to install freeware), before they made up and issued courseworks!

I do agree with you Moira, I had to do the same as we have Microsoft Access 2003 software, 2003 Access database only stores BMP files. So to display records you must Convert your PNG,GIF or JPEG images to Windows Bitmap (.bmp) files.

John we had the same issues previously with the switchboard manager for some pupils, with pupils switchboard not showing after they’ve completed the reports, queries e.t.c I found the only way thus far to get around that is to create a new database, then create a switchboard without the tables and queries then copy over all the tables (create the relationship) queries and reports (i’m assuming they’ve done this) from the old database. Ensure the names are exact, else you will get errors. it is a bit tedious and annoying but it works.

if anyone figures out a quicker way of getting this done please post.
