Web hosting accounts for PHP/mySQL etc

    Hi

I’ve created a wee tool for creating PHP/mySQL accounts for pupils who with to do any of the following:

    Host HTML pages
Host CSS, Javascript and PHP pages
    Execute PHP pages
Set up a mySQL database for access through PHP
Access files via FTP or web interface
Analyse visitor logs to a website
Set up an encrypted HTTPS connection using SSL
Generate a PGP public and private key for encrypted messaging
Set up a search engine for your website that will index HTML pages
    Try out site optimisation (compression-based)
Access domain lookup and traceroute tools
Access a webserver vis Secure Shell (SSH)

It uses industry standard Cpanel control panel software so it’s easy to use.

You can create accounts form this link (the code is AlanTuring):

There is a PDF guide to the features of Cpanel that might be useful at Higher level.

I’d be grateful if anyone could test it out. It should make life easier than setting up a local server for some people.

Many thanks for this. I’ve been experimenting with this at home and barring any council network faff i’ll be using this when i get back to work. My alternative was to be setting up a local wireless network in class so this has saved so much time and expense. I’m planning on setting up sub folders for each pupil to publish to via FTP, effectively their own URL. Using FileZilla, all works ok so far. Hopefully keeping things very basic will keep the within the 10Mb but we’ll see. This is exactly what I was looking for to give the pupils experience in publishing to the web and hands on with basic Server Side content in a real world context. Thanks again.

Thanks a million. This will be so good experience for the pupils and so far so good – web hosting seems to work from school! Cheers.

Thanks, it must be a problem at the end as two of us have tried and go the same message telling us the code was wrong, but I copied and pasted the code given.

Very strange. Is it just saying “signup code wrong” ?

    No availability for independent schools?

This looks perfect and will give pupils a real taste of using server side scripting and everything that goes with it! Will trial it at school as I’ve just set it up at home for the moment.

Hi Scott, I can add the name to the list if you let me know the school?

I’d also like to experiment with this from an independent school, if you could add Beaconhurst School to the list I’d be much obliged, thanks.
