We’re still working hard confirming the last couple of sessions for the amazing programme for the CAS Scotland conference on 22nd November but I can’t wait to tell you about what we have confirmed so far!…

We have a senior phase track for Computing teachers with sessions on various web and database development with Colin Maxwell talking about HTML and CSS, Charlie Love talking about Higher SDD using PSP, and Andrew Cumming from Napier University telling us about querying databases with SQL. Also in the senior strand is Raymond Simpson from SQA talking about verification and Jeremy Scott letting us know about the new RSE materials: “Information Everywhere”.

We also have a Broad General Education strand aimed at Primary teachers with sessions in the morning from Jody Greig on Computer Science FX and magic, Ross Gibson on programming in the Primaries on iPads, and Amanda Wilson on using Scratch game development competitions as a great transition activity. Later we have an afternoon of fun “unplugged” practical activities (including making binary necklaces and loom bands!) for learning computing concepts without computers.

Our keynote speakers in the morning are Elizabeth Montgomery and Kirsty McFaul from Education Scotland. In the afternoon our keynotes have a focus on working in the IT industry and careers from Toshiba Medical Imaging on computer graphics in health and Detective Steven Wilson on ethical hacking

In addition to all of this there is an afternoon practical workshop on arduino electronics and programming (this needs to be booked beforehand on Eventbrite) and an all day drop in space where you can pop in and try out some of the fun activities provided by Coderdojo, Codeclub and Llamdajam / First Lego League.

If you don’t already have your ticket then grab one quick at https://casscot14.eventbrite.co.uk as there’s not many left!
