YRS Festival of Code, 5-11 August 2013
The Festival of Code is an annual event for young programmers up to the age of 18 and has taken place in the UK since 2009. It runs with the principles of community, open source and open data and is ultimately about finding and fostering every child interested in teaching themselves how to code. We want to create a network of young people supporting each other through learning and solving real world challenges.
Young Rewired State is led by Emma Mulqueeny (Founder of Rewired State), who is a mum of two and has recently been voted onto the Wired 100 list and Tech City 100, together with a team of CRB-checked employees, vetted volunteers and part-time staff.
The way it works
Monday-Thursday:
• young people gather in centres across the UK
• we will introduce you to the sources of open data, from government and beyond
• prototype websites and apps are built for presentation at the weekend
Friday:
• everyone travels to Birmingham for an evening of pizza and talks
• stay overnight in designated spaces
Saturday:
• showcasing heats to panels of judges
Sunday:
• heat winners announced
• heat winners present to finale judging panel
• overall winners chosen/awards
• everyone goes home
The Scottish Centres will help with travel arrangements to Birmingham for the participants from Scotland, either via minibus or by train.
